Trizah

Trizah’s Story

Growing up, Trizah faced many obstacles to her education and used her athletic talents to the best of her ability as her family had no money to pay for school. Her mother worked hard to earn wages working various jobs around the community, doing laundry and domestic chores. Occasionally, she was commissioned to make and sell artificial flowers during national holidays. Trizah’s father struggled with alcoholism, failing to support their family, and becoming a financial burden when he developed severe ulcers. Moreover, he was a violent man who beat up his wife and children, often kicking them out of the house.

When Trizah joined high school, she attended motivational talks and forums that raised awareness against gender-based violence. She slowly regained her confidence and began advocating for girls’ rights.

As an excellent soccer player, she hoped to find athletic scholarships so she would be able to pay for her college education. Trizah soon discovered a school for needy but talented athletes. She was accepted and joined the school’s team. Players were compensated for every tournament they participated in while studying in school but the earnings from the matches were just enough to sustain books, bus fares, and food. Trizah was also using her earnings to help her family, leaving her unable to pay her fees and vulnerable to dropping out of college.

GLOW provided her with the support she needed to go to college, pursue opportunities, receive mentorship for the future, and become a role model for her siblings. As a leader of her family, she hopes her siblings will pursue education with her support.
