Our Mentorship Program matches accomplished female Kenyan leaders with GLOW Girls to encourage character building, leadership, personal and professional growth, and overall career and workforce readiness and development.

Anne Mulehi 
Communications Officer, Natural Resources Alliance of Kenya (KeNRA)

Anne was KeNRA's intern before she was named for the role in the communications department through which she liaised with partners and community members as the organization's contact person. 

Through collaborations with other Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), she became a member of the Kenya Oil and Gas Working Group (KOGWG) as KeNRA's representative. She has been able to participate in policy formulation and regulation reviews amongst other roles. 

In March 2020, she joined Mama Hope to become a global advocate. She completed the five-monthly fellowship program and officially became a certified global advocate. The fellowship aimed at mentoring eleven women in different countries around the world in championing community-led development. She is a University of Nairobi graduate, with a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Media studies.

 

Julie Njoki Mumbi
Business Consultant & PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner

Now an alumna of Afrika Kommt! based in Germany, Julie is a business consultant and certified PRINCE2 agile practitioner with over 4 years of experience in IT business consulting. Her expertise lies within project management in digital transformation projects, technological business enablement, business analysis, and risk management.

Her vision is to be at the heart of the revolution which will place Africa at an economic advantage from its current digital space which is transitioning from traditional, relatively inefficient spaces and growing into the efficiency of relevant technological solutions through innovation.

 

Kendi Muthomi
Research Associate,
University of Florida

Kendi Muthomi is a scholar, dynamic leader, social entrepreneur, and celebrated scientist. She holds a BSc in Agronomic Engineering from EARTH University, Costa Rica, an MSc in Entomology and Nematology from the University of Florida, USA, and a Ph.D. candidate in Entomology and Nematology at the University of Florida. She is an experienced researcher with a demonstrated history of working in chemical ecology (chemically-mediated interactions), and the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) of Corn, Cassava, Sugarcane, Fruits, and Vegetables in Costa Rica, Kenya, and the USA.

She is keen on mentorship, giving back to society, promoting sustainable development, and the socio-economic empowerment of youth and women. She has collaborated on various multi-sectoral projects with reputable organizations (e.g Clinton Foundation, MasterCard Foundation), industry (Vestaron Inc., ISCA Technologies Inc.), research institutions (e.g IR-4 project, University of Florida), and the government (USDA) in the delivery of food & nutritional security and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

Leonida Soi
Founder, Scratch Club for Schools

Leonida Soi is a Computer Science teacher, Techwomen fellow, an Edtech Champion coast region Kenya under the Ministry of Education, a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert, a STEM mentor, a trainer with Africa Code Week Kenya, and a women empowerment workshop facilitator.

She is the founder of Scratch Club for Schools which aims to promote coding with scratch and robotics for children in schools in Kenya, by sensitizing teachers to initiate and promote scratch coding and robotic clubs in their schools.

In 2020, she was honored with the Global Teacher Award for her outstanding contribution to the profession. We couldn’t be more excited to have her on our team!

 

Dr. Meggie Mwoka
Program Associate-Health Financing, Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc.

Meggie is a medical doctor and a global public health specialist. She is excited about supporting other women to succeed in their own ventures, to maneuver educational and professional spaces, especially in STEM which tends to be very male-dominated. She hopes to learn from the mentees and support them to achieve their intended goals. Being a GLOW mentor gives her the opportunity to share the lessons she has learned thus allowing others walking the same journey to better maneuver the challenges she may have faced. Her educational background lies in medicine, global health, public policy, health innovation, and entrepreneurship.

She is a Rockefeller Foundation-Boston University fellow, UNLEASH SDG talent, Nairobi Global Shapers, and has been awarded the Distinguished leadership among young women doctors by the African Medical Women International Association.

Meggie hosts and produces the Kusini podcast, plays the violin, hikes, sketches, and enjoys yoga and rock climbing.

 

Sharon Telewa
Idea & Innovation Manager, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy

Sharon is a Kenyan engineer, program manager, innovation enthusiast, and keynote speaker. She holds a bachelor’s degree in telecommunication and information engineering from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. She is a Fellow of the Tech women program - an initiative by the U.S. Department of State for Education and Cultural Affairs and the IIE; and the Afrika Kommt! Program - an initiative of German industry for future leaders from Africa. Sharon is the founder of the Jedimu Elimu Trust, an organization that supports education and economic empowerment projects in the home region in which she grew up in Kenya.

Susan Mwaniki
Finance Planning & Analysis Manager, PowerGen Renewable Energy

Susan has worked in finance with leading international financial institutions for over a decade. She is a Certified Public Accountant with a bachelor’s degree in business management, finance, and banking. Early in her career, she worked for women-led organizations and now devotes her spare time to mentorship and supporting young women to become a generation of transformational leaders. Susan is pursuing an MBA at New York University.

 

Wariimi Karingi
Founder & CEO, Let’s Go Mental Kenya

Wariimi is a mental health advocate and warrior, who thrives from her first-hand experience with severe depression and anxiety disorder. She is also the founder and CEO of Let’s Go Mental Kenya. Her background is in the ICT industry where she worked for a period of 10+ years. However, she switched careers to become a mental health advocate due to her lived experience. As one who is extremely passionate about ending the stigma associated with mental illness, she is advancing her education by pursuing a Master’s degree in Psychology at Liverpool John Moore University.

 

Dr. Rosaline Macharia
Senior Lecturer, The University of Nairobi

Rosaline Macharia is the founder of Data for African Impact (D4AI) and currently holds the position of Senior Lecturer of Bioinformatics at the University of Nairobi. She mentors diverse cadres of people and is an advocate for youth and women empowerment. Dr. Rosaline graduated from SANBI, University of Western Cape with a PhD in Bioinformatics in 2016 and is a TechWomen fellow. Prior to Rosaline's current position, she worked as a Bioinformatics consultant at the International Center for Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE).

Asha Makana Panyako
Business Intelligence Developer and Tech-lead, Safaricom PLC

Asha is not only a Business Intelligence Developer and Tech Lead, she is a community leader with a passion for helping girls from marginalized communities learn how to code. She holds a BSc. in Computer Science and an MSc. in Computational Intelligence from the University of Nairobi and has years of working experience at Safaricom PLC, a telecommunications giant in Kenya.

She is a technology enthusiast and deeply cares about children and education. Growing up, she had the privilege of having a mentor at nine years old. From him, she learned the art of giving and hard work. 

She is the founder of CodeYetu, a coding club committed to equipping children in children's homes with coding skills as well as mentoring young girls to take up STEM-related careers.

 

Edna Macharia
Research Assistant, Kenya Agricultural & Livestock Research Organization

Edna is a research assistant at the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization. As part of her job, she develops, optimizes & reviews protocols and standard operating procedures in animal cell culture.

She is a holder of a BSc. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and an MSc. Biotechnology from Egerton University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Science & Technology.

She is a pioneer for disaster and humanitarian relief through her involvement with the Red Cross by providing relief to victims of catastrophes and disasters, carrying on and assisting in the work for the improvement of health, the prevention of diseases, and the reduction of suffering.

 

Juliet Wanjiku Sospeter
Investment Associate, Kiva

Juliet is a finance and investments professional with over 4 years of experience in the banking and financial services industry. She is an investment associate at Kiva where she monitors performance metrics and trends on institutional partners and borrowers with a focus on Africa and the Middle East. Before that, she worked at Equity bank as a risk quant analyst.

She holds a BSc in Actuarial Science and is a Certified Investment Financial Analyst and a member of the ICIFA. She also has working proficiency in the French language. Juliet is passionate about financial literacy; she believes that the key to unlocking potential in Africa is through prudent financial management. She teaches young people how to manage their finances and how they can grow their wealth through her social media platforms. She is also a financial literacy tutor at Abojani.

 

Laura Tich
Mozilla Open Leader & Co-Founder, SheHacks Kenya

While in college, Laura co-founded SheHacks_KE, a community of women cyber security professionals and enthusiasts from all corners of Kenya.

In her own words, her vision was to apply her academic knowledge in Applied Computer Science in starting a cybersecurity organization, a dream she says came true because she had much-needed support.

“I was lucky enough to have found mentors who guided me through the process as I was trying to gain foundational skills.”

Laura is also a Mozilla Open Leader and an advocate for Internet Freedom, having worked on various projects around digital rights across Africa.

She is one of the first Kenyans to speak at the Black Hat USA conference which was held virtually in 2020.

 
 

Maureen Njoki
Software Testing

Maureen holds a Bsc. Geospatial Engineering from the University of Nairobi.

“Mentorship is something I have always admired though I had little of it. I think sharing lessons I have learned over time on education, and professional development could guide others to develop themselves faster or more efficiently”.

She is passionate and interested in mental health awareness creation.

 

Maureen Macharia
Founder, Spindle Design 

Maureen started Spindle Design in 2016, a UX design firm that incorporates data-driven problem-solving with people-oriented design to build processes and products for business growth. She has her bachelor’s degree in business and information technology with first-class honors. Maureen is also an advocate for youth in STEM, volunteering her time to organizations like ours that support the future and education of women. 

 

Phenny Adhiambo Omondi
Impact Manager for Teaching & Learning, African Leadership Academy

Phenny graduated with a BSc in Agronomic Engineering and is a candidate for an MSc in International Development at the University of Edinburgh.

Phenny is the Impact Manager for Teaching and Learning at the African Leadership Academy in Johannesburg, South Africa. Her early career experience includes agribusiness, regional trade and logistics (exports-imports), business development, program/project and partnership management, rural development, data analysis, and instructional design.

She loves data and people and is constantly looking for ways through which data can be used to improve the quality of life for people and their communities. Fascinated by the different aspects of African cultures, she enjoys learning about the cultures and people. She is fluent in Spanish and loves to play Scrabble.

 

Sylvia Nyaga
Founder, Syna Consultancy

Sylvia Nyaga is a social entrepreneur committed to creating water and sanitation solutions for persons living with disabilities in Africa through design and innovation. She graduated with a degree in Water and Environmental Engineering from Egerton University and leveraged her skills to start her social enterprise, Syna Consultancy.

Syna Consultancy provides equitable and inclusive sanitation solutions with a special focus on the needs of those living with mobility disabilities, the elderly & the sick. Sylvia has won awards from the Ministry of Water, Irrigation & Sanitation as well as the Kenya National Innovation Agency and is currently a Techwomen fellow.

She has in the past volunteered for the Africa Cancer Foundation and, through AIESEC, worked on education projects in Rwanda and Bahrain.

 

Brenda Nyaringita
Support Engineer, GitLab

Brenda has an educational background in Telecommunication & Information Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

She is also a TechWomen 2022 Fellow, a U.S Department of State Professional exchange initiative, and a 2022 Zuri Awards Young Achievers nominee. She runs EngineerED Africa where she champions pre-university students' entry into Engineering and Tech at a young age. Brenda has served in the KamiLimu mentorship committee as a KamiLimu Fellow and later Innovation Partner where she led the innovation track, guiding tech-aligned campus mentees into building innovative solutions.

Her dream is to teach Computing and Programming across Sub-Saharan Africa through her lifetime.
