Naomi

Naomi’s Story

After graduating college, she worked for the Leo Project in community development. The Leo Project drives social change through its programs for youth and adults in Nanyuki, Kenya. During Naomi’s education, her father suddenly died, leaving her with no support system, helpless, and without money for school. Before receiving a GLOW scholarship, the conditions of poverty were so extreme that she could not afford school supplies, tuition money, or accommodation, surviving on barely a meal a day.

Through her GLOW scholarship, Naomi is empowered to reach her goals and dreams to help others by giving back to her community stating, “I believe one day I will be able to pay this forward by helping others achieve their goals too”.

Coming from a farming community that does not believe girls should go to school, Naomi has become an advocate for other girls who are capable but not able to go to school. She feels very lucky because without GLOW she would not be able to go to college.

Naomi has served in many community service projects mentoring girls and boys, caring for the elderly and sick, and has volunteered at prisons. Everywhere she goes, Naomi finds the opportunity to serve others through her knowledge, experience, and positive perspective on life. Her dream job is becoming the director of public prosecutions in Kenya so that she can be at the center of upholding, protecting, and promoting, human and constitutional rights.
