Dianah’s Story

Dianah is a 2020 GLOW graduate. She finished as one of the top students in her college graduating class and the best overall in Entrepreneurship. She is currently working as a full-time Guest and Partnership Manager at Daraja Academy. Despite many hardships growing up, education has been the driving point for much of Dianah’s life. Her mother faced early pregnancy as a youth, forcing her to drop out of school in 8th grade to raise Dianah, doing whatever it took to make money.

At eight years old, Dianah became aware of her mother’s struggles with substance abuse, and in Dianah’s words, she “had to mature at a young age”.  This added significant stress to her life, ultimately affecting her performance at school. It reached the point where her mother could no longer care for Dianah, forcing her to live with several different relatives throughout her childhood. Even with the constantly changing living situation, Dianah excelled in school scoring in the top 3% on her national exam. Now, with the help of GLOW donors, she holds a degree in Hotel Management and is excelling at all she puts her mind to accomplish.
