Cynthia’s Story

Despite performing well on the national exam, Cynthia's future was unclear. She almost deferred school for two years because of lack of finances. Her parents separated just before the COVID pandemic, leaving Cynthia to help her mother with selling honey and ginger drinks at the market to get her youngest sister into high school.

Growing up, Cynthia was raised by her grandmother so that her mother could go to college. Eventually, her father offered to support Cynthia's education on the condition that her mother agreed to become his second wife. When she turned him down, he withdrew his support for them and Cynthia’s education. Cynthia's mother could not afford to pay for the law degree that she worked so hard for.

Thankfully, Cynthia found GLOW and applied to become a GLOW Scholar. She is now studying Law at the University of Nairobi with the intent to become a criminal lawyer and represent the underprivileged who don’t have the financial ability to hire a quality attorney.

Her favorite thing about GLOW Foundation is that it helps women achieve their dreams while encouraging entrepreneurship and side hustles. She even started her own thrift shop, 'Elegante,' with a few of her peers to help supplement their needs.
